Donington Endurance Legends, May 2018
Same deal as last year, but bigger and with even better weather ! We had a stand in the Classic Bike Clubs marquee - Andy brought his freshly-painted R1-Z, Tom rode in on his TZR250 and new guy Ian brought along his mint and rare NSR150SP. Yes, 150. With a shortage of other volunteers, Tim brought his KR250 and KS-II along too. As per last year we were alongside the LC Club again, but they were also struggling for attendees so we more-or-less merged the two stands.
We don't just sit around admiring ourselves though. Andy did the trackday sessions on his R1-Z, and Sara took advantage of the charity sidecar passenger experience by hurtling round the Melbourne loop on a couple of serious outfits.
Of course, the main event is the 4-hour endurance race, and the start was brought forward to 11:30 on the Sunday this year. Massive respect to Tony and the boys from Allspeed for fielding a TZR250 against the big fours, and for finishing too ! They got a well-deserved trophy for 'Spirit Of The Event'.
There was lots of other stuff to see and do too. We were particularly impressed with the display put on by the Old Skool Suzuki mob, and we're mentally clearing a space in the DS garage for a beefy old EFE or similar.
This show is all about the easy-going atmosphere, with full paddock access, a band and DJ on the Saturday night, special guests, traders, demos, anniversary parades and exhibitors on top of the racing and bike show. The old pitstop cafe has gone now, and been replaced by a posh new restaurant and bar. Big thanks as usual to Rob and Darin of Endurance Legends for letting us be part of this again.
